M, M Saheb Ali, Asashuni (Satkhira) From Satkhira: A truck loaded with jute sticks caught fire at the corner of Kular in Asashuni upazila of Satkhira district.
The accident took place at around 4 am on Friday at Kular intersection in Asashuni upazila. About three hours before the fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire, a large part of the truck with its contents was burnt. Witnesses said motorcyclist Rafiqul Islam Bulu and motorcyclist Akhter Hossain of Budhahata village said the truck (Jhenaidah-F-11-0032) was going to Kachua area of Asashuni after loading jute sticks from Jhenaidah. At around 4 in the morning on the way, he tied a jute stick in the truck at the corner of Satkhira-Asashuni road and fell on the truck. The truck immediately caught fire. Upon receiving the news, a unit of fire service came from Asashuni and tried to control the fire. Later, two more units of the fire service came from Satkhira and extinguished the fire at around 7 in the morning. By that time, about 60 percent of the jute sticks in the truck and the engine of the truck were burnt.
Asashuni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mominur Islam said the truck caught fire and caused a traffic jam at Kular junction. At present the traffic is normal.
