Asashuni (Satkhira) Correspondent : Former chairman of Kadakati union of Asashuni upazila and veteran Awami League leader Kanak Chandra Sarkar has passed away.
He passed away at Satkhira Medical College Hospital on Friday, January 21, 2022 at around 1.45 pm.
Kadankati UP’s current chairman Dipankar Kumar Sarkar Deep’s father Kanak Chandra Sarkar, 65, suffered a stroke in 2010 during the chairman’s tenure. From then until today he was ill.
He became more ill on Thursday, January 20, 2022 and was taken to Satkhira Medical College Hospital on Friday morning, January 21, 2022. The veteran politician died while undergoing treatment there. After the ambulance brought his body to his own home in Tentulia, Union, people from all walks of life in the upazila flocked to see him for the last time.
Later in the night, his last rites were performed at Mitra Tentulia Panchpalli crematorium.
This one-time politician has served the people as a people’s representative for 39 years.
He was first elected a member of the then Greater Dargahpur Union Parishad in 1973. At that time he was a member of 6 Union Parishads for a total of 4 times including 3 consecutive times. Then in 1992 he was elected chairman of that union council. He was the chairman of Kadakati Union Parishad from the time the Greater Dargahpur Union was divided in 1996 until his illness in 2010.
He was also a veteran Awami League leader. He was vice-president of Upazila Awami League and president of Union Awami League for a long time. His role in the overall development of the union at that time, including the division of Kadakati Union Parishad, was commendable. He was an honest and kind man. He is survived by his wife and five sons.
Meanwhile, after hearing the news of his death, prominent industrialist Khairul Mozaffar Montu, Asashuni Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Asim Baran Chakraborty, Upazila Awami League General Secretary Shambhujit Mandal, Khajra UP Chairman and Upazila Awami League Joint-General Secretary Shahnewaz Dalim, office secretary and newly elected UP Jagadish Chandra Sana, Dargahpur UP Chairman Sheikh Miraj Ali, Paikgachhar Lashkar UP Chairman Tuhin Kaguji, Labor League leader Dhali Shamsul Alam, General Secretary of Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad Ranjit Vaidya along with teachers, public representatives, journalists, political leaders, civil society leaders and people of all walks of life. He rushed to her home to offer his condolences to the bereaved family.
Former Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhul Haque MP, Asashuni Upazila Parishad Chairman and Upazila Awami League President ABM Mostakim along with Upazila and Union Awami League leaders, leaders of allied organizations, Chairmen of various Union Parishads, Kadakati Union Parishad also expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Members, leaders of different organizations including different social organizations.
